New Introduction

mrs slocombe's gossip
Lo, there are no more motorcycles. I was formerly known on LJ as motorcyclesfly but I really needed a fresh start. This current name, the_hostiles comes from the Lost fandom. It's the name the Dharma Initiative used to describe "the Others", the island's inhabitants that followed Jacob. Yes, yes, Lost is over...but not for me.

If you're a old friend, please add me here. If you're a new friend, stop by and say hi! Right now, this journal is unfiltered. Eventually, if personal entries come up it might become friends only, aside from the fanfic.

So, I broke my laptop...

I was picking it up in order to plug a USB device in the back, and somehow I pressed on the screen and cracked it. Like, a huge line across the entire screen. :( My brother tried to fix it but was unable. All my stories, completed and in progress, my hundreds of illicit downloaded songs, lots of pictures and icons...gone. The good part of the story is I upgraded to a new computer that I like much better. The old one was a Dell Inspiron, this one is a Gateway, and it's a lot faster, came pre-loaded with Microsoft 7 which I like so far, has a web cam and lots more hard drive space, faster processor, etc...

I've been doing a lot of reading, mostly good books but I came across one I really disliked. The author is an American woman in her forties, and she was describing prostitution in Thailand. I bought it because it sounded interesting and I thought it would be wise and fair to read about the lives of the women there, but the writer mostly recorded how hard it was getting to know people, and how unstrustworthy all her sources turned out to be, and then about her affair with a married Thai pimp who invited his wife to her apartment and destroyed her stuff but how she took him back because he brought a flower. Anyway, it should have been marketed as the autobiography of a grad student researching in Thailand, because 75% was about her life, her trip to India as a hippie, her love affairs and classes, and just 25% or so was actually about the red light districts and such. I'm now reading H.G. Wells' "War of the Worlds" classic because I've never quite gotten around to it. Earlier today, I watched "The Exorcist" and our family went to dinner.

Eleven days until I leave for school!

Spent the morning painting the porch and railings outside, which actually isn't a very bad task. This afternoon, I have a doctor's appointment and then my dad and I are going shopping for some supplies I'll need in my dorm, ie: snacks and things like shampoo. ;) I'm getting a bit excited, actually.

Got cornered in the grocery yesterday by one of my aunts. She's a bit of an oddity and I don't see their family too often even though they live in the same town as my parents. Her husband is an extremist sort of pastor, the kind that claims it'll not be long now before they are all raptured up to Heaven and who doesn't allow his kids to make friends with people who are not devout Christians according to his standards (for example, he doesn't think Catholics, Orthodox or certain popular denominations are Christian). They disowned my cousin when she came out as a lesbian, after pretending for a very long time that it wasn't happening. My aunt isn't actually very religious, not in the way I think of religious which is respecting the sacred. Hers is sort of a pick and choose religion. She believes, for instance, that if she wakes up in the middle of the night and has to use the bathroom, that is God calling on her to pray and sacrifice her sleep for him. To each their own, I suppose, it just seems like dice tossing more than religion, but I'm an agnostic, church-going but still agnostic, so I guess I don't have much say. Anyway, my aunt and I had a strange banter. This is more or less an accurate transcript:

Aunt: *sharply* Lily!
Me: Hey, aunt T
Aunt: *narrowing eyes* What are you wearing?
Me: *wearing jeans and a t-shirt with a picture of Remus Lupin on it*
Aunt: *glaring* You are harlot?
Me: Er, I don't think so
Aunt: That's a lot of eyeliner for someone who isn't in the sex industry, honey.
Me: Okay...I'll wash it off at home.
Aunt: You do that. Take that lipstick off, too (Clear gloss!). You look like a slut. That's the wrong kind of attention, you know? Guys around here don't respect girls that sleep around.
Me: I'm not actually dating here right now...
Aunt: Dating's a sin. You should court. That's what your cousin A did. (Cousin A is 15)  Your dad said you were leaving.
Me: I am, in two weeks.
Aunt: He said you'd already left.
Me: Oh, well, I haven't.
Aunt: He said you were gone.
Me: *trying to smile* No, I'm here.
Aunt: No, he said you'd left. *shakes head* Well, before you leave you need to stop over by the house, got that?
Me: Sure
Aunt: I mean it. We got to pray over you before you go.
Me: Oh?
Aunt: *glaring again* They teaching you evolution at your school? Trying to turn you away from the Lord? The righteous shall win out, little miss. Only the meek will stand to inherit *loses cohesion* Yeah, we need to say prayers of protection over you! You need the armour of God on you! Temptation comes from all sides. Satan will try to sway you, you know! Your evolution classes don't teach you that, huh?
Me: I'm not taking science courses this term...
Aunt: Ungodly curriculum all of it.
Me: I go to a Catholic school. We're actually required to do a religions course.
Aunt: Catholics! Geez, gee whiz I can tell you some things about Catholics. Catholics! *in my face* You worship the Pope?
Me: No.
Aunt: Kiss a pope's ring?
Me: Is that part of it? I'm not Catholic, I just go there.
Aunt: *muttering under her breath* Having sex with the Pope...
Me: I'm not.
Aunt: You stay away from those Satanists.
Me: I don't know any Satanists, actually...
Aunt: You think you're funny? You think it's a joke? The Catholic church is full of Satanists. The Christians are being persecuted by Satanists. There are Satanists here, everywhere. The Lord told me that. Look, Satanists. *points to a woman buying milk* Black cloaked Satanist!
Me: Um, the ice cream is melting...I should get going.
Aunt: You come by the house, we'll knock those devils back! You'll stand for purity in this demonic world. Can't be too careful. Never too soon to get right with God. The day of judgement will soon be upon us. Hey, do you know what aisle the ketchup is in?
Me: Six, I think.
Aunt: It would be six. 666. Satanists! I shouldn't be giving my money here. You take care, honey, we'll see you this week.

Fanfiction: Primary

Title: Primary
Rating: NC-17/MA for sexual content
Word Count: 4,455
Summary: “Sex.” She spoke the word like magic, a chant not to be overused, the way Ben said the name of Jacob. “I want to, I’m ready.”  The Prequel to an earlier fic of mine, "Anything You Want" (http://the-hostiles.livejournal.com/3641.html)
Pairings: young!Alex/Richard, implied young!Eloise/Richard, mention of one-sided Ben/young!Alex
Characters: Richard and Alex, mentions of Ben
Prompt: Conversations with and several fics from bittersweet325
Notes: This story explores an emotional and physical relationship between an adult man and a twelve-year-old minor girl. Issues of consent are mostly clear, but there are some grey areas that could be read as dub-con or non-con. If the things described in this story happened in real life, many would call them morally wrong and possibly illegal. I don't condone these types of actions in real life, only in the world of storytelling. Ah yes, and lobsters are slaughtered, too. If you think this fic will offend you, please don't read it! There are many other choices available within the Lost fandom that will suit most any taste.

Alex at twelve was an interesting mystery. Collapse )

Title: Anything you want
Rating: NC-17 for graphic sexuality, NSFW
Word Count: 3,811
Summary: She would never know how badly he needed her. At least, that was the promise Ben had made for himself. He should have known it would be for naught.
Pairings: young!Alex/Ben, references to young!Alex/Richard, background Annie/Ben
Characters: Alex, Ben, Richard, mention of Isabel and Annie
Prompt: Inspired by a fanfic by bittersweet325 called "Mutual Possession" and by watching the film version of Lolita yet again.
Notes: This is completely inappropriate, a dub-con incestuous relationship with an adult and his minor ward, aged twelve, and references another relationship, consenting, but still between the minor girl and another adult man. And yes, it's somewhat graphic. If that is going to offend you, please don't continue.

She would never know how badly he needed her. Collapse )

Title: So in love with the wrong world
Rating: PG
Word Count: 2,329
Summary: Alex comes back. Life after death, just a dream, raised from the dead? That's up to you. Somewhat of a stream of consciousness piece, I wrote it without stopping while listening to the Florence song on repeat.
Pairings: Alex/Richard, Alex/Man in Black
Characters: Alex, Ben, Richard, Jacob, the Man in Black
Prompt: Completely and utterly inspired by the Florence + the Machine song "Blinding". I've included the song here, above the cut, should you want to hear it. The video is just an album cover, so you can listen and read at the same time if you like. The phrase "rust and stardust" is Nabokov's.
Notes: Honestly, I have no idea what happened. Sometimes, when I write late at night...

Seems that I have been held, in some dreaming stateCollapse )

Pairings: Alex/Richard
Characters: Alex, Richard, mention of Ben
Prompt: 50ficlets table four, prompt #6 "storm"
Notes: moderately graphic sexuality between an adult and a consenting minor. Avoid if that bothers you.

They were damned anyway. Collapse )
Title: Enchantment
Rating: G
Word Count: 810
Summary: Ben and Richard talk in the night after Ben brings baby Alex back to camp.
Pairings: Gen
Characters: Ben, Richard, Alex, mentions of Widmore and others
Prompt: 50ficlets table four, prompt #45 "baby"

"Well?" Richard asked, when the rest of their people had drifted off to sleep and it was himself and Ben, alone. Collapse )

Fanfiction: Caught

alex and her sex life lol
Title: Caught
Rating: MA/NC-17
Word Count: 938
Summary: Alex & Richard get caught in the act
Pairings: Alex/Richard
Characters: Richard, Alex, Ben
Prompt: 50ficlets table four, prompt #41 "awake"
Notes: There is moderately graphic sexuality to watch out for, and it takes place between a consenting fifteen year old Alex and an adult ageless Richard. If that is likely to offend, don't read.

Her touch woke something long dormant within him. Collapse )

what does God want?
Last night my brother got into a motorcycle accident. He was driving home in the dark and a deer came out into the road, which he hit. He's okay, no broken bones, but he got scraped up really badly and needed stitches because he broke open his chin on the pavement. I do wish he would quit riding but I know he really likes it.

I'm watching this movie called "Fall From Grace", about the Westboro Baptist Church. If you don't know about them, they are led by this guy named Fred Phelps and they are virulently anti-gay and don't respect much in the way of human rights. They picket funerals and slander the dead, mostly claiming anyone who is gay deserves to die and that people who fight in the military will go to hell. It's a lot of craziness. The weird thing, to me, is that a few years ago it seemed like everyone knew Phelps and co. were crazy, but now, there is a lot more religious extremism around. Maybe I'm just more aware of it now, but it seems like more extreme right-wing people are speaking up against any type of progress. Prop 8 being overturned in California (yay for that, by the way!) has provoked a lot of people. There are some radio stations here where my parents live that have spent the last few days talking about how evil gay marriage is and how it'll destroy families...you'd think marriage would promote the family, would encourage unity and commitment and a safe place to raise kids, right, but they disagree. Then someone was yelling about that mosque being built two blocks from ground zero in New York, where the 9/11 attacks destroyed the towers. I guess anything being built there other than a memorial would create some upset but a lot of people are opposed just because it's a mosque. The host on AFR yesterday, Brian Fisher, said he didn't think any more mosques should ever be built in the States because Islam is anti-American. He wants to deny a certain group their rights based on their religion, but if the same happened to him I'm sure he'd throw a fit. Anyway....checking out the rest of the movie.
